The National Academy of Science - IRB Resource Page. For advice on the scientific issues that frequently pervade policy decisions, the leaders often turn to the institution that was specially created for purpose: the National Academy of Sciences and its sister organizations -- the National Academy of Engineering, the Institute of Medicine, and the National Research Council.

Office for Human Research Protection. The OHRP, as an office within the U.S. Department of Health and Social Services, develops, monitors and exercises compliance oversight relative to research that involved human subjects. A substantial amount of policy and educational information is available at this site.

Office of Research Integrity. The ORI promotes integrity in biomedical and behavioral research supported by the Public Health Service (PHS) at about 4,000 institutions worldwide.

American Association of University Professors. Includes the AAUP draft report on the experiences of social scientists and scholars in other academic disciplines whose research is subject to the government's rules for protecting human beings.

The Chronicle of Higher Education. Provides timely resource materials including a link to article by Jeffrey Brainard "The Wrong Rules for Social Science? Scholars say U.S. human subjects protections, designed for medical studies."

Public Responsibility in Medicine & Research. PRIM&R seeks to advance strong research programs and the consistent application of ethical precepts in both medicine and research. Through national conferences and published reports, it has addressed a broad range of issues in research, clinical practice, ethics, and the law.

Other Agencies. With human research policies including Department of Education, Department of Energy, Food & Drug Administration, Health & Human Services, and the National Institutes for Health.
