Proposal Writer's Toolkit

Provides grant writers with tips on choosing partners and/or co-investigators, tips on writing proposals, and additional web resources to consult for assistance in the writing process.

Extramural Funding Fact Sheet

Provides grant writers with pertinent information often utilized on proposals (forms) submitted to external funding agencies. Includes organizational identification numbers, fringe benefit rates, facilities and administrative costs (F&A or indirect costs) rates, and other information.

Corporate Giving Programs in Wisconsin

Provides grant writers with a link to corporate giving programs in Wisconsin.

Digest of Programs and Activities Reviewed by the State of Wisconsin Under Executive Order 12372

Contains the list of domestic assistance programs administered by federal agencies that are subject to Executive Order 12372 and selected by the State of Wisconsin for review. It is mandatory that notices of direct federal action and applications for assistance under the programs listed herein be submitted for review under the terms of the Executive Order.

The Foundation Center

The Foundation Center provides free information about a specific grantmakers. Users can search by funder name or funder by state, city, or ZIP code. Foundation Finder provides grantmakers' addresses, web sites, and fiscal data. 990 Finder directs you to an organization's IRS returns (listing previous gifts and grants).

The Foundation Center: A Proposal Writing Short Course

Provides information on the process of proposal writing. Discusses the process of proposal writing starting from gathering background information, to preparing each individual section, to the budget, and finally submission.

Kids Count

Provides child-related reports and raw data from the most recent census. Available data include multiple characteristics and can be sorted by geographic regions.

National Association of Counties

Includes publications, conference and grant opportunities, current issues, and other information representing common interests among the United States' county governments.

National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) -  Forum of Education Statistics

This resource, provided by the U.S. Department of Education's Institute of Education Sciences, provides tables, publications, and reports of data collected from early childhood through postsecondary education. They also provide data tools that allow users to search for schools, universities, and public libraries.

National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) - State Education Reforms (SER)

The State Education Reforms webpage compiles and disseminates data primarily collected by organizations other than the NCES on state-level education reforms.

National Science Foundation (NSF) Division of Undergraduate Education Guide for Proposal Writing

Provides information and assistance in preparing effective proposals for the National Science Foundation Division of Undergraduate Education.

NIH Quick Guide for Grant Applications

Provides guidance in preparing proposals for the National Institutes of Health. The Guide details information on how to prepare the major sections of the PHS-398 form.

NSF FastLane

NSF Fastlane allows faculty and staff to submit proposals electronically. Fastlane provides help with preparing NSF applications and preparing grants.

NSF Grant Proposal Guide (GPG)

The GPG provides guidance for the preparation and submission of proposals to NSF. It is important that all proposals conform to the instructions provided in the GPG. Conformance is required and will be strictly enforced unless a deviation has been approved.

Social Science Research Council (SSRC) The Art of Writing Proposals

Provides concrete advice on writing to the unspoken customs, norms, and needs that govern the grant review process. The authors also provide insights into the art and craft of proposal writing.
