| PK-16 TEACHER QUALITY INITIATIVE [Updated 09 December 2008] |
The University of Wisconsin System Administration is seeking proposals to support campus activities that will advance the successful implementation and evaluation of quality teacher preparation (PI 34); involve faculty from both education and subject-matter disciplines; and engage partners from PK-12.
Important Deadline Note: The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Office of Research and Sponsored Programs’ deadline IS FIRM. Each System institution may submit *one* application. Whitewater applications will be reviewed by the Academic Development Committee who will make recommendations to the Provost regarding selection of our applicant.
PK-16 will not seek new proposals/support new awards in 2009-2010.
Beginning in FY2007-08, a significant portion of the PK-16 grant funds have been directed to support campus activity surrounding the FIPSE grant to create common tools for the use in assessment of student teaching. Over $350,000 in FY2009-10 is earmarked to match the FIPSE grant awarded to the UW System for this purpose.
For the next two years (FY09-10 and FY10-11), the PK-16 Grant resources of $100,000 will be used to create a Systemwide initiative that would serve to enhance the current campus-based Teacher Education Biennial Budget initiative. Specifically these resources will be used to support the creation of effective campus and System-level practices and accountability system(s) that would focus on successful recruitment, graduation, and on-the-job retention of new teachers. The target population of new teachers as identified within the Biennial Budget Initiative, include historically under-represented populations, high-need certification areas, and high demand geographic areas (urban and/or rural).
While the FY07-09 Teacher Education Biennial Budget Initiative provided fiscal resources for campuses and System Administration to hire personnel, there were minimal resources provided to support the campus and System Administration positions. Therefore, the PK-16 Grant resources will be used to support a variety of activities, including a series of Systemwide conferences that would enable campus faculty and staff to learn about research-based practices for advancing effective recruitment, graduation, and on-the-job retention. In addition, these resources will be used to create a Systemwide database so accurate and relevant data can be collected to assess the impact of campus and System-level practices with an ultimate goal of demonstrating success in reaching campus targets.
The UW System Teacher Education Advisory Committee will undertake (beginning in December 2008) a self-study in teacher education. Operating under the charge to focus on supply and demand and related priorities, this body will also be responsible for the oversight of this two-year initiative and will help identify relevant actions that should be undertaken to advance the recruitment, graduation, and on-the-job retention outcomes.
Forms below are from previous call for proposals for reference only. Proposals will be be accepted for FY 2009-10 or FY 2010-11.
